The Last of Us: REMASTERED ⋙Photo Mode [75/??]
Leave me alone! We’ve been running for weeks, and for what? I have no home, no money, no food. My life is a fucking disaster! I’m tired of running, I give up. You hear me? I give up!

Gustave Caillebotte - The Floor Scrapers (1875-6)

Original on top, later version below

"Despite the effort Caillebotte put into the painting, it was rejected by France’s most prestigious art exhibition, The Salon, in 1875. The depiction of working-class people in their trade, not fully clothed, shocked the jurors and was deemed a ‘vulgar subject matter.’

The images of the floor scrapers came to be associated with Degas’s paintings of washerwomen, also presented at the same exhibition and similarly scorned as ‘vulgar’”.

Think about that. The only reason why we don’t do something is because we are afraid. Not saying that sometimes that fear isn’t justified but the only reason why we don’t do something is because we are afraid. If we could get past the fear, what could we do? What could we experience? What could we accomplish? Don’t let your fears be the thing that hinder you, for God sake. [x]

Re-carving Sculpture

Great art changes how you see the world forever. Today is garbage day in Queens, and on my walk to coffee this morning I saw a broken yard gnome on the sidewalk… and I paused. Thanks to Lasserre, I will never see a duck decoy or any other piece of “thrift shop” sculpture the same ever again. That’s amazing.
